Stroomwerk for governmental organisations

Ministries and municipalities often develop creative initiatives to stimulate renewable energy applications. And often they want to set an example by using solar energy themselves and installing solar power systems on roofs of their offices, city halls, etc. This way, everyone can see the government uses clean energy and reduces the production of CO2 gasses. Not only does it save the municipality money on their own energy bill because they produce their own electricity, there is an extra positive side effect. Because this way solar power plants are installed in the middle of a village or city, people become more aware of energy (ab)use and they will switch off the light more often or save energy in other ways. A triple effect is reached when a municipality puts solar modules on the roof of schools. In combination with an educational program students are more aware of energy (ab)use and the effects of abusing energy sources. They learn to cope with the limited fossil fuels that is left and learn to appreciate alternatives. Their parents will notice this too. And of course municipalities can simulate their inhabitants to buy solar power systems by providing an incentive program. This way the public is financially helping the municipality to obtain their environmental goals!

There are many ways a municipality can reach their renewable energy plans and goals. We would be very pleased to help you develop a concept. Please contact us to talk about all the possibilities.

Here are some examples of projects we did in collaboration with governmental organisations:

The Ministry of VROM has put solar modules on the entire roof of the former nursery. Because we used black tedlar, the looks of the system are smooth and plane. It gives the entrance of building a modern and technical look.

The Ministry of Defence has used solar power system on several buildings. Grid connected systems as well as stand-alone systems have been built. They vary from simple constructions for flat roofs to complex systems with special integrated modules.

Luna is a public lighting system that will save you 100% energy. It is grid independent but still guarantees maximum light performance during summer and winter. This concept based on solar power can provide you with ‘green’ light anywhere. The solar modules convert the sunlight into electricity and store it in the batteries. Because of the use of an effective energy management system, just a few hours of daylight in winter will provide enough energy to light parks, parking spaces, roads and squares. Our experience is that Stroomwerk’s Luna’s are the most reliable lighting systems available in this market.

The municipality of Barneveld has placed 5 Lunas along a road besides the A1 highway. Also, Amsterdam and the municipality of Waterlanden have chosen these renewable lighting systems. West Maas and Waal uses the concept to light up direction signs. You can find more information about Luna at ‘Downloads’.

The roof of this governmental building at Cuijck is provided with transparent solar modules. These modules also provide shade in the building during the day.

On the island of Texel you can find many solar power systems. The municipality developed a special incentive program to stimulate its inhabitants to use solar power. Many, many private house owners bought a pv-solar power system. When you make a tour in the island you can’t miss the systems.

The city of IJsselstein decided to place little solar power systems on every school in the community. The students scan watch the performance of the system with the remote performance meter.

The complete south facing roof of the fire brigade at Houten is made of transparent solar modules. They fit perfectly in the modern design of the building.

The municipality of Wageningen is very enthusiastic about solar power and has already realised several solar power project throughout the whole city. We think this sports centre project is a perfect example of how to integrate solar power already in the earliest designs of the building. All together over 2200 solar modules are used; 2 huge fields of ‘ordinary’ modules on the roofs of the sporting halls and special transparent modules on the chimney and shed roofs above the entrance. The modules produce about 200.00 kWh every year.

The Province of Drenthe ordered 144 solar modules for the roof of their own office. All together the capacity is 23.760 Wp. We used ‘zonnegoot’ (‘solar gutter’) as the mounting structure for this flat roof. Stroomwerk has especially developed “zonnegoot” to use the available space on the most efficient way.

We have installed amorphous solar modules on the roof of the library in Haren. This was a project in collaboration with Nuon Renewable Energy (local utility).
